There are two major types of people who are drawn to our business.

One is the type for whom acting (or voiceover) is a dream. They want desperately, more than anything, to be part of the industry.

The problem is, they never quite get around to doing what they need to do to make it happen.

This type invariably winds up frustrated. Before too long, they quit.

Then there’s the other type: the kind that manage to turn their dreams into reality.

How do they do it? These folks dream just as big as the others. Maybe even a little bigger…

It’s not the size of the dream that matters. What makes the difference is the determination to make your dreams real.

Before you can bring a dream into reality, you must first bring it into focus.

What, specifically, do you want? “To be an actor”? “To be a voiceover artist”?

That’s a start, but you have to be much more specific.

To be a professional actor means means living a certain kind of life. It means having a very specific kind of career.

What kind of life & career do you intend to create for yourself?

To be a professional actor means being a small business owner. What kind of business will you run? What specifically, on a day-to-day basis, will your business do?

Being a professional actor means seeking out & serving clients. Who are your ideal clients, and how are you going to connect with them?

(This last is especially difficult for some actors, who view the opportunity to act as a kind of blessing miraculously bestowed upon them by powers far above themselves.)

The actor who remains in the “dream state” never gets specific about what he intends to do, and how he’ll go about doing it.

Naturally, nothing ever happens for him.

Having a dream is fantastic, and very necessary. But without a plan — and the determination to stick to it — you’re sunk.
